The Fugue: Water

Water. The essence of life, at least one of them. In this country, given that we have vast amount of freshwater, we take for granted the extensive quantity of drinkable water that flows around us. By and large, we use drinkable water to rid our homes of waste, as greywater systems are deemed too bothersome and expensive.

Water can have a calming effect. The stillness of the surface is comparable to that of a Zen garden, but on a much larger scale. A single pebble can then disturb the surface in such a way as to show just how big that body of water is.

Water can also have a disastrous effect. Tsunamis, tidal waves, seiches and waterspouts can wreck havoc and kill.

… and yet, who can resist dancing in the warmth of the first spring rain?
