The Fugue: Sunset

We live near a giant burning star. We are protected by an atmosphere from its radiation. The angle that our little rock makes with the star will determine how long the electromagnetic radiation takes to pass through the atmosphere, which has consequences for the colours we see. Light is scattered by particles in the atmosphere, clouds obscure the light of our nearby star, as well as other stars in the night.

Some people say that if you’ve seen one sunset, you’ve seen them all.

Staring at a sunset, you can occasionally experience a green flash (sorry, no pictures here of that) which only goes to show that there are still many secrets that the glowing ball of flame holds for us. We can only watch and hope that we will be the recipients of one of the many secrets in store.
